The McCormick County Business League was formed in March 1988 when several concerned citizens came together to discuss the future growth of the county. The League was organized under a structure, conceived by the National Trust for Historic Preservation which was known as the "Main Street" approach. The approach is based on four points: organization, design, promotion and economic restructuring. Under that organization McCormick County became South Carolina’s first countywide "Main Street Program."
In October 1990, the League changed its name to the McCormick County Chamber of Commerce. Still following the same guidelines as the original organization, the chamber continues to rely on the resources of the South Carolina Downtown Development Organization.
In May 1996, the McCormick Visitor’s Center at 100 S. Main Street in McCormick became the new home of the McCormick County Chamber of Commerce. The building is a service station from the 1920’s, restored and renovated by the Town of McCormick.
